Users can make half the screen go into full brightness mode. When users install Vivid for the first time, it will run in split-screen mode. Unfortunately macOS is smart enough to notice that there is nothing to be displayed in a completely transparant video. (…) My first approach was to create a fully transparant HDR video that I could overlay on top of the system. Five minutes later I decided I was going to spend the next month trying to find ways to unlock this higher brightness across the entire system. The first thing I tried when I got the new MacBook Pro last year was to see how bright the screen could go when watching HDR videos. A split-screen mode can show you the difference between 500 and 1,000 nits of brightness on the screen. While using Vivid, you can adjust the brightness with your keyboard’s brightness keys or toggle the app on and off. The temperature of your displays will increase by between 5-10%, but macOS will limit the max brightness if necessary. Note that while we believe Vivid is safe to use, we can not be held responsible for any damage that occurs to your display as a result of using this software. Vivid does not use low level display hacks to push your display to levels it shouldn’t go. However, you should note the mild disclaimer about the app: This means that a pro can edit an HDR photograph or video with the entire frame at 1000 nits of brightness, indefinitely.” As Apple has noted in the case of it’s pro-level external display, “Pro Display XDR can sustain 1000 nits of brightness across the full screen. Should be safe for displaysīut the developers said it shouldn’t compromise the displays. No matter how useful you might find it to greatly brighten your display (or not), note that it will increase battery drain on a MacBook Pro. “We knew that the Metal framework was capable of reaching extended brightness modes on macOS, but it was tricky to find the exact approach that would allow us to use this outside of our own application,” said Harraway. Instead, the app relies on “a clever mixture of different technologies including Metal, Carbon, Cocoa, Swift, SwiftuI, and even some C code” to double the MacBook Pro and Pro Display XDR’s usable display brightness. But the new Vivid app aims at Mac power users who want to really brighten up their screens on Macs with mini-LED screens, which would include the two mentioned above and maybe others later.Īccording to Harraway, Vivid achieves the extra brightness without employing any hacks or low-level system calls. New Vivid app doubles screen brightness of Pro Display XDR and MacBook Proīruin launched an app in March that uses AirPods to help improve users’ posture.

If you decide to have your veterinarian handle the cremation or burial arrangements, under no circumstances will your pet’s remains be handled disrespectfully or inappropriately after death. Try to finalize these details, along with payment arrangements, ahead of time instead of having to make decisions in the emotional moments after your pet has passed away. Private cremation is a bit more expensive, but the ashes will be returned to you. If you choose cremation, you have the option of communal cremation, which is less expensive, but you won’t get your pet’s ashes back. You may choose to leave your pet with the veterinarian for burial or cremation, or you may be able to bury your pet at home depending on the ordinances in your area. While arranging for the procedure, keep in mind that you also have options for your pet’s remains. Make Burial or Cremation Decisions Ahead of Time It may be helpful to even schedule an appointment without your pet prior to the procedure to talk to the vet, or you can ask to speak to the vet over the phone. Most veterinarians will discuss the process of euthanasia in detail with you prior to the final appointment. If it is your first time losing a pet, explain that you have never had to go through this experience before and would like to know what to expect. Your veterinary team understands what a difficult decision this is, so they should be willing to work with you to find the time that will work best for you and your pet. You might even request that your appointment be the last one of the day or the first one in the morning. If you schedule an appointment at the veterinary clinic, be sure to tell the staff the intention of your appointment so they can help you find a time when your veterinarian is not busy with other appointments or surgery. You can either take your pet to your veterinarian for the procedure, or you can opt for in-home pet euthanasia services. Setting Up the Appointment for the Euthanasia Procedure Your pet has been a huge part of your life for a long time, and this is not an easy thing for you to do."įor those of you who have had no experience with the euthanasia of a pet, these guidelines may help put your mind at ease by answering the questions you have about the euthanasia process and aftercare decisions. It’s not uncommon for bereaved pet parents to tell the veterinary team, "I am sorry, but I don't know how to act right now." The best advice we as veterinary professionals can share is, "Act like you. Pet loss is a very individual experience, and there is no wrong response. Many seemingly strong pet parents deeply grieve during and after the time of their pet's passing. Coping With the Reality of Pet EuthanasiaĪs veterinary practitioners, we encounter many different responses from pet parents who are faced with euthanizing their pet. It will answer the most common questions about the process and lead you through setting up the appointment and what to expect on that day. This guide is for pet parents who have already made the decision with their vets that euthanasia is the humane answer to their pet’s illness. When it does, many pet parents have questions about the process for pet euthanasia and how to deal with the grief after such a loss. Nevertheless, that time eventually arrives. We fear losing our pets because they mean so much to us. And as they get to be senior age, all pet parents wonder, "Will I be able to put my pet down when the time comes?” From the moment you welcome a new pet into your family, a strong bond starts to take root. Amusingly, the A300-series isn’t listed in the software’s own “Supported Devices” list. According to the manual, you need to download Sony’s Music Center software and install the Sony USB driver. I couldn’t get the A306 to work as a USB DAC. If you have older Bluetooth headphones that don’t have great range, pairing them with the A306 might give you issues. Don’t expect to leave the player on your desk while you walk around your house. The biggest issue I’ve found, usability-wise, is the Bluetooth transmitter isn’t great. Sony claims the A306 can handle up to 20,000 songs. I bought a name-brand 512GB card for $40 and spent the better part of an hour transferring all my audio files. I don’t think this is a big deal, since microSD cards are cheap. Only about 18GB are available for music and downloads. I wish this screen saver worked with streaming apps too. Amusingly, the entire Walkman is smaller than a cassette. The name of the song is on the cassette, and changing tracks changes the colors and design of the cassette. If you play songs via the internal player, i.e., not streaming, the screen saver is a cassette that slowly spins its reels. From a battery-life standpoint, having the screen activate only when you press the power button is good. I wish I could tap the screen and have it wake up, even if just to skip through a few songs and see what they are without having to wait until they start playing. The screen is so small, though, that I don’t know why you’d want to use it in this way. I even installed a mobile game I play, and it worked. You could technically do these things, mind you. You’re not (I hope) going to be using this like you use your phone, as in checking email and watching TikTok videos, so the speed probably won’t be an issue. The majority of my interaction was with the physical volume and track buttons on the side, so the touchscreen interface never bothered me. If you have an older or less expensive phone, it won’t seem slow. Opening apps and switching between them take an extra moment. I wouldn’t call it sluggish, but if you’re used to recent, top-end phones, things take a bit longer. Not a huge deal, but not as seamless an experience as most modern phones. The screen size (3.6″/9.1cm diagonal) and resolution (1280×720) are occasionally an issue, making notifications hard to see and causing some menus to overlap. You can move apps around, download new ones, and so on. Once the setup is complete, the main interface is typical Android. It’s a little strange because Android thinks of the A306 as a phone, so there are some odd questions. The setup process is very standard Android 12, which isn’t a surprise. The aluminum body is great, as it doesn’t feel delicate. Generally, this is a good thing, letting it easily fit in any pocket. It’s smaller than an iPod Touch and maybe 40 percent of my Pixel 7’s size. All the photos make it seem far bigger than it actually is. The A306 is significantly smaller than I was expecting, smaller than a deck of cards. They could take a cue from Campfire Audio for how to do cool paper packaging. I appreciate Sony trying to reduce its carbon footprint by minimizing packaging and plastic, but for something that is unquestionably a luxury item, it would have been nice for the unboxing to be a bit more special. I was expecting a bit more flair than plain white cardboard. There’s not much in the box: a USB-A-to-USB-C cable and the instruction manual. While the internal storage is only 32GB, there’s a microSD card slot. It even has a headphone jack, and you can use it as a USB DAC when it’s connected to your computer (theoretically). It runs on Android 12, so you can install pretty much any app you’d be able to install on an Android-based phone or tablet. It plays back pretty much all audio file formats, including high-resolution FLAC files up to 24-bit/384kHz, and has a claimed 36-hour battery life. The NW-A306 has a lovely design featuring a diminutive aluminum frame. I decided to test the lower end of those waters, for reasons I’ll discuss below, and bought myself a Sony NW-A306 ($349.99, all prices USD). Of more interest to us are the ones aimed at the audiophile market. At one end of the price spectrum are no-name players of various capacities and dubious quality that litter the likes of Amazon and eBay. Enter portable media players, which were once colloquially called “iPods.”Īpple stopped making iPods in 2022, but the category lives on in two fairly disparate categories. Namely, not having access to music without a data connection if you don’t want to take up space on your phone. For a very small niche, there are a few issues with that. Generally, and for most people, their phones will suffice. A few weeks ago I laid out the challenges to listening to music while traveling internationally. The only real downside is the price, but we think beginners and pros would be pleased with this purchase. ★★★★★ □ DJI Mavic 3 Pro One of the best foldable drones on the market, this allows you to get stunning videos and offers great flexibility with three cameras that can film at the same time. If I was going to be paying that much for a razor, it should at least look glamourous enough to be at home next to the marble sink and brass faucet I have yet to afford.Īt that time, no such alternative existed. I even distinctly remember searching the internet for a nicer looking alternative about six years ago, when I got fed-up with the pool blue Venus handle and it’s $22 four-pack replacement package. You basically had two options: the brightly colored and obscenely overpriced Gillette Venus or that clumsy looking monstrosity from Schick. And any shower time I have left for singing is a definite positive in my book. For years I have lamented the razor options for women here in the states. You won’t have to go back over “missed spots,” and you’ll have more time between shave sessions, so it's worth it. Luckily, you’ll never have to buy a full-on razor again - and you’d never want to go back to another brand - once you have Flamingo.Ĭlosing Argument: The Flamingo razor and shave gel equals a smoother shave in general. The solution to that is just keeping the blade cartridges on hand to easily replace. The only possible downside is that when the blade starts to get dull, the smooth outer edge almost gets “stuck” in your armpit instead of swiping across smoothly. I like to have options, personally.Īnother plus is that on a whole, this razor is a budget-friendly and more eco-friendly option, because you’re never disposing of the razor itself like you would with a cheap drugstore razor - you’re just replacing the blades (which you don’t actually have to do very often). You can buy the razor blades, shave gel, or lotion you need when you need them, and can either order online or pick them up at your local Target store. The part that’s actually more convenient for some people is that is that Flamingo is not a subscription service and won't lock you into any plan, price-wise. The shave set includes a razor, extra blade, the shave gel, and a moisturizing white willowbark-based lotion, along with a shower hanger that suctions to the shower wall and keeps your razor in place. When you first order anything from Flamingo, you have so many options: You can purchase just the razor, just the blades, just the shave gel, or you can get the whole kit and caboodle. That is thanks to the aloe vera in the formula - it’s meant to actually condition your skin while you’re shaving, so that you don’t get out of the shower having stripped your skin of all its moisture. Some shaving creams feel weird and overly foamy on your skin, but this almost has the feeling of whipped cream on your leg. The foaming shave gel just takes things to the next level. The main differences from the men’s razor - since Flamingo is not made for your face - are that it has an aloe vera strip for extra hydration, and a flexible hinge and rounded edges to more skillfully contour to those tricky spots. The Flamingo razor has five blades that get right up close to your skin, and an ergonomic handle that won’t slide out of your hand just when you’re getting to that main strip on your calf. Flamingo is a sister company to Harry’s, and these non-flimsy razors are made very similarly to men’s razors. One major positive about this brand is razor equality (can I get an amen, ladies). But it's also no laughing matter when it comes to sharpness either. I needed a new razor and put it to the ultimate test: Would it prompt me to shave my legs more frequently in the winter? First of all, I’ll say that you hardly even need shaving cream to go with it because it glides so smoothly. The Brief: Flamingo was a line I saw displayed at Target and in social media ads. The Tester: Mara Santilli, an avid leggings-wearer who’s (admittedly) inclined to cut back on winter leg-shaving to avoid those dreaded chilly-air goosebumps On Trial: Flamingo razor and foaming shave gel There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder - do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do. Swedish massage is ideal for susceptible skin types who easily endure rashes, mainly when strong friction and rubbing are applied. Swedish massage is a gentler and more serene massage than deep tissue massage, which is more intense and powerful. However, no matter how naturally intense this massage can be, it won’t hurt as much as many people have come to believe. Deep tissue massage is intended to relieve all those tense muscles below the surface carefully.Īdditionally, many of the principles used for deep tissue massage are also present in Swedish massage, but deep tissue massage is somewhat more energetic.Īdditionally, this form of massage focuses on problematic or painful areas, meaning it targets overworked stiff muscle areas rather than constantly working on the back and neck areas. Massage goes by this name because it is meant to penetrate deeper into the underlying muscle layers. The region of the fascia or connective tissue. It targets three central muscle regions, namely: The other prevalent type of massage is deep tissue massage. Overall, a Swedish massage is relaxing because it is a serene and calming form of massage. In addition, Swedish massage uses a sheet to cover certain body parts during the session itself, and this sheet is then moved systematically throughout the massage. It is no wonder that many people these days have wanted to learn the art of Swedish massage. The application of therapeutic friction Ĭombining these techniques ensures maximum circulation and relaxation, which develops the flexibility of the person being massaged.Introduced in 1812, Swedish massage has five basic principles, which include: And while massage therapists can do their best to provide recommendations, you can have better results if you understand the fundamental differences between the two types of massage and decide for yourself what you need. In the end, they tend to choose the option that they feel is the least invasive and the most comfortable.įor this reason, the Swedish massage, which is a relaxation massage, is often the most requested. When clients are planning a massage, our massage therapists’ most frequently asked questions are usually “what is the difference between a Swedish massage and a deep tissue massage?” or “which one would you recommend?”įor starters, most people know they’re looking for something to loosen up tight muscles, target pressure points, and relax, but they’re still not quite sure what to ask for. However, you have to figure out the details to know that the two are not similar at all. The two types of massage are considered to be the same. This frequently happens with Swedish massages and deep tissue massage. Much worse, they often tend to identify them as the same things, when in fact, most types of massage are unique. People who want a massage are often confused between the different forms or types of massage. One important consideration for builders looking for a complete upper is barrel length.
