The team quickly realizes, maybe this wasn't all Lobo's doing, but Jenny's: she altered reality without realizing it. The Super-Adaptoid shrinks to fight Cap himself, and gets got with a logic trap Cap hadda have swiped from Star Trek: could it adapt the ability to die? Sure-gkk! What was its plan for after it took over the world? And could it create something new? S-A doesn't have good answers for either, and worse, Cap beats his replacement. While Cap fights an adaptoid trying to copy and replace him, Doctor Druid tries to get into the Super-Adaptoid's head: not with his powers, but his words. programming: killing Captain America was like its first job, that it had never completed. Cap explains, he wasn't sneaking, he was going to face it, since this was probably just part of his original A.I.M. Kubik recognizes fighting the Super-Adaptoid directly would destroy the planet, so while the Adaptoid starts making duplicates to replace all of humanity, Kubik goes for help to an old friend that wouldn't recognize him: Steve Rogers, currently in his black uniform as the Captain! (I liked that beat: Kubik rolling up like "I know you don't recognize me, but we've been through some stuff.") Cap agrees, and in short order is before the Super-Adaptoid: tough to sneak up on a telepathic robot. Dinosaur Comics recently brought up another one: where Nomad erases Uhura's mind, in " the Changeling." Well, she could maybe be re-educated.back to the level of a Starfleet officer, but would her personality and memories be gone? Wasn't the Uhura we knew basically dead, then? Yeah, Superman probably hasn't considered that either, in today's book! From 1972, Action Comics #408, "The Hero Superman Doomed to Die!" Written by Cary Bates, pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Murphy Anderson. Did you maybe beam down a blanket!? What, did they duplicate and get itchy or something? How about a tent? Or fire? I assume that technology still existed. The crewmen beamed into space in " And the Children Shall Lead" drives me up the wall, as does the transporter malfunction in "The Enemy Within": sure, maybe they couldn't use the shuttles since those hadn't been established yet, and they couldn't beam down heaters because they duplicated and malfunctioned. And even though I've seen the Original Series dozens of times, and sometimes the same little nitpicks come up every time, I keep watching them. Now, he's back in my life with a proposal he says is too lucrative to ignore. If you had to guess what was on at any given time at my house, "Star Trek" is a pretty safe bet. Shane Mulvaney was always gorgeous and mysterious, but I haven't seen him since high school. But I've just run into a guy from my past, and he might be the key to changing my bad luck. It's enough to make a woman like me sob for days. My mother's health is only getting worse. I'll have to close my floral shop before the end of the year.
